IMPORTANT ADVISE ABOUT FOOD

1. Wash all vegetables well to eliminate any discolorations or imperfections. Use the freshest ingredients you can find. Remember that the food you're holding right now will nourish your bird for several months. It must be of the highest caliber!

2. Soak the beans the night before you want to prepare them, then cook them first thing in the morning on the day of preparation.

3. Prepare the vegetables while the beans, grains, and pasta are cooking.

4. Depending on your bird's texture preferences, you can finely mince all components in a blender or food processor. Our birds enjoy more variety in their meals, so we grate some veggies, slice others, and leave other smaller components whole.

5. If your bird has a preference for food temperature, reheat it in the microwave for a few seconds. Just make sure it's simply being warmed and not cooked! To eliminate any hot spots, give it a good stir before serving.

6. Homegrown sprouts are the healthiest!

FREEZING: One method for making this meal last longer in the freezer is to remove as much moisture as possible from the dish before freezing. Freezer burn is caused by ice crystals that develop in moisture. However, avoid squeezing extra moisture from meals because this causes a lot of nutrients to be lost. Allow items to drain in a strainer instead. Another method for extending the life of frozen foods is to eliminate all air from the freezer bag. A vacuum sealer is the perfect tool for the job. Remember that you cannot defrost or refreeze foods. So be careful to freeze the food in reasonable quantities. Freeze portions equal to either a single meal for everyone in the flock or up to what would last 2 or 3 days in separate bags. You'll be pleased you took the time to do it correctly later.

INGREDIENTS: 1.5–2 GALLONS OF FOOD The produce amounts in the recipes are approximate and should be used at your own discretion. You will need to make adjustments to fit the size and species of your flock. Each recipe will generate around 1 1/2 to 2 gallons of food. On this approach, each batch must supply four months' worth of food. Feel free to combine items from the three recipes as long as the essential parameters are satisfied in each batch.
